£1.8m Design and Construct success at Oldham Hospital

Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust have awarded Bethell a £1.8m contract to design and construct a 560 space car park on the site of the former Westwood Park adjacent to Royal Oldham Hospital.

The new car park will be used by hospital staff and those who travel to the site on business from the Pennine Acute Trust’s three other hospitals. It will replace the parking offered temporarily at Oldham Athletics’ home, Boundary Park, and also replaces previous plans to build a new multi-storey car park in the area.

Barry Waterhouse, travel and access manager at Pennine Acute, which runs the hospital, said: “Having retained the temporary staff parking at Oldham Athletic FC for five years now and following acquisition of the Westwood Park site and planning approval, a new controlled and CCTV monitored parking area for our staff is to be provided at the Royal Oldham Hospital. This will act as a direct replacement of the spaces currently leased from the football club. This new dedicated staff parking area will have improved security and will be accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It will also provide a parking facility as close as possible to the hospital site and in turn this will create an environment that is much better for our staff and hopefully it will make their journey to and from work as pleasant and as safe as possible.”

Bethell expect to commence work on site in December and complete the scheme in July 2015.
