Barrow in Furness Station – Phase 1 Refurbishment

Working for FKTPE, Bethell undertook railway station refurbishment works concurrently in 3 separate areas with the station remaining open to passengers throughout.

On Platform 1 the existing toilets and female waiting room were refurbished to provide new male and female toilets, with separate disabled, babychange, female staff and cleaners store facilities.  All internal walls and partitions were demolished and below ground drainage alterations carried out before new internal walls, ceilings, flooring, IPS units, cubicles and vanity units were installed.  Temporary passenger toilets were provided by Bethell throughout the works.

On Platform 2 & 3 the existing waiting room was refurbished.  A new curtain walling system with auto swings doors was installed and all floors, ceilings and finishes were renewed.

All the M&E services associated with the above areas were renewed including the installation of new mains distribution boards and 80m of high level armoured cable within the Platform 1 canopy.

Disabled ramps with balustrades and handrails were installed to serve the new toilets and waiting room.

Within the subway a new laminate wall panel system was installed to hide and protect the surface fixed M&E services.  The subway steps were coated with an anti-slip coating and re-painted.
