Bethell Construction

Stars Brook Pumping Station

Bethell were awarded the above contract in February 2007, commencing on site the following April. The contract works entailed the construction of a wet well and pumping station with an associated length of 600 metres of rising main and 100 metres of gravity sewer to the designated point of discharge. Once the installation was established, a range of existing properties currently discharging sewage to a dilapidated septic tank could be connected to the wastewater network.

The outline works design issued by UU at tender stage was developed to an approved construction phase design prior to works commencement.

Close liaison was required from the start of the project with various UU kit framework suppliers to ensure key contract programme dates were met as required.

In order to minimise disruption caused to traffic and the public for the construction period, the 600 linear metres of rising main required was installed successfully utilising no-dig techniques. As well as reducing the amount of disruption caused by the works, time was saved on the contract programme and reinstatement of potentially sensitive verge areas reduced.

Works were completed successfully within the contract period.
