Tesco Store, Litherland

Bethell were awarded the Section 278 Adoptable Roadworks for a new Tesco supermarket in Litherland, Liverpool. The site is situated at the busy junction of the A5036 and A5090, both busy dual carriageways. Works undertaken as follows:

Localised widening of Hawthorne road to create a new filter lane for the Tesco development
Installation of new High Voltage Cable ducting
Planing existing surface and resurfacing existing dual carriageway with hot rolled asphalt
Installation of street lighting
Installation of new signalised crosssing and alla ssociated infrastructure
Installation of new surface water drainage system including 12.0m deep outfall manhole in the carraiegeway.
Reconfiguration of traffic Islands
Installation of Anti Skid to all junction approches
Installation of new pedestrian guardrails
Lining works

Due to Church Road being designated a Highway Agency ‘Red Route’, the majority of works which affected trafic flow had to be undertaken throughout the night and during the weekend. Extensive pedestrian management was implemented due to the proximity of a local secondary school within the work site.
