Victoria Park Lake
The original lake was backfilled over 30 years ago and the new lake follows the original 6000m2 kidney-shaped footprint. Construction consists of a reinforced concrete edge beam around the perimeter and a bentonite blanket on the lake bed to form an impermeable seal. 7000m3 of earth was excavated and then transported elsewhere within the park to form new landscape features. The bed of the lake is sloped towards the centre to give a maximum water depth of 1.5 metres.
An interesting feature is the 30 metre long footbridge arcing across the southern end of the lake which is supported on concrete pad foundations.
Mechanical and electrical services have been provided to supply the feature fountain, aerators, hydrants and landscape lighting. The existing park land drainage was diverted to an inflow chamber so that the lake has a continual supply of water.
A perimeter footpath surrounds the lake and further pathways, steps and disabled access ramps have been constructed to link the lake to the remainder of the park.
