Through major term contracts, principally with United Utilities and Western Power, serving a substantial part of the UK, we provide a service on a wide array of Overhead Lines. Principally the work is currently focussed on wood pole overhead networks up to 33kV.
We hold one of the largest accredited linesmen workforce in the UK (circa 150 linesmen), ensuring our clients receive service and response capability for emergency, disaster and scheduled work. Specialist arbicultural teams are also employed for vegetation control to DNO standards. Uniquely in the industry we recognise the growing skills shortage and have a substantial Apprentice Linesmen Apprentice programme to ensure that we continue to be able to provide high quality accredited linesmen to support our Clients' requirements. Much of this training is delivered by our in-house training manager and 'school' facilities.
Much of the work is undertaken on a 'turnkey' basis, where using our SAPs in conjunction with our project managers, we switch, rezone and provide generation, to minimise lost hours for customers.
Features of our service include, scheme survey, project development and costing, pole erection, together with crossarms, conductoring, transformers, tower dismantling, connections to the network and testing and commissioning. On completion we provide the client with as constructed drawings and reports.
Often the work is undertaken 'out of hours' to minimise customers' disruptions. All the work is carefully planned in advance on a pole by pole basis and the details fed into our works management system which is accessed remotely by our Engineers via GSM connected laptop computers often from the most inhospitable environment. This data can be accessed through a dedicated website by our clients so that they can remotely track the progress of the works.
A recent success was achieved in partnership with Western Power with the provision of a new 10km service across the welsh valleys to the community at Llanddewi Bretti, who up to 2003 had relied on individual private generators. This scheme was supported by EU project funds and featured on national TV.
