Heaton Park Lake Car Park

Heaton Park is one of the largest municipal parks in Europe covering an area of over 600 acres and situated four miles north of Manchester city centre. Additional car parking facilities were necessary in order to cope with increased visitor numbers and Bethell were awarded the contract to construct a new 240 space pay and display car park adjacent to the boating lake which replaced the existing parking facilities.

Extensive site clearance and earthworks we required around the existing small parking are to facilitate the proposed extension. A new perimeter filter drainage system was installed around the enlarged area along with a 60m³ cellular attenuation tank.

Over 5,700m2 of new surfacing was installed which included 2,800m² of proprietary buff-coloured surfacing to parking bays. Additional works included 500m of conservation kerbing, block paving, landscaping, fencing and installation of pay and display machines.

All civil engineering works and road surfacing was carried out in-house by Bethell.
