Carrwood Road Bridge Relining Scheme

The brick culvert lays beneath a busy commuter road in the outer suburbs of Stockport and the structure had suffered significant damage during the abnormal floods of 2012 when the flows from Carrwood Brook rushed through the culvert.

Client: Stockport MBC
Value: £60,000
Location: Bramhall, Stockport
Duration: 5 weeks

Carrwood lies either side of the road and is a site of biological importance and a local nature reserve in an area of ancient and semi- natural woodland.

Working closely with Stockport MBC, a no-dig solution was adopted to ensure safe installation, zero disruption to traffic and minimum impact on the surrounding environment

This contract involved the relining of the damaged culvert with a Glass Reinforced Plastic liner measuring 1.10m wide x 1.25m high. The new liner was introduced into the culvert in several short lengths before being fixed into position with a surround of insitu grout. Flows from the brook were dammed upstream and over-pumped through the liner until the grout had fully cured.
