Hill End Road Retaining Walls

A design and construct solution for replacement of failed masonry retaining walls to both sides of a steep hillside road over a 500m long stretch.

Bethell participated in Early Contractor Involvement to look at the various reconstruction options and we produced a feasibility report for the client with our recommendations which included an assortment of civil engineering options along the 500m length dependent on ground conditions and the proximity of adjacent properties.

Various solutions included in-situ reinforced concrete walls up to 4.5m in height, 3.0m high pre-cast units and, also, soil nails with geo netting. All the walls were re-clad in set aside masonry. Other works included land drainage, highway drainage, pre-cast concrete, gabions construction, service duct installation for Utility diversions and complete reconstruction of the highway.
