Stalybridge Station

The existing Victorian Station is a grade 2 listed structure but it lacked the space and form required for 21st Century train travel.

Client: First Keolis
Value: £700.000
Location: Stalybridge
Duration: 30 Weeks

A striking modern extension was commissioned by the Train Operating Company, First Keolis, which provided a spacious and functional space that complimented the original Victorian building.

Site logistical problems were many and involved a very tight working area, temporary works to support the existing building, working next to live rail infrastructure, maintaining public safety during the construction works and temporary re-location of ticketing facilities whilst the works were undertaken.

The quadrant-shaped corner site ensured that there were no standard modules and all elements were bespokely made to suit the layout including the two-storey glazed façade.

Many structural alterations were undertaken internally to ensure the internal space of the new extension provided effortless passenger flow from the existing building and platforms through to the new facility.
