Westby Reservoir Roof Refurbishment

Westby Reservoir is located in The Fylde and stores water to supply the Lancashire towns of Blackpool, Lytham and St Annes. Although the reservoir dates from the 1930s, a roof was fixed over the open reservoir approximately 50 years ago to keep the seagulls away. A major overhaul of the roof was required to keep it up to a serviceable standard.

The refurbishment of the 3,00m2 roof was let through United Utilities’ Asset Maintenance Service (AMS) Framework and involved the project management to coordinate many specialist operations including –

All works within the covered reservoir were carried out under a highly regulated confined-space policy. Internal works were undertaken to strict levels of hygiene and full cleaning of the reservoir completed before re-introducing new supplies of drinking water.
